CityLife is an ambitious commercial and residential development on Milan’s historic former trade fair grounds, the Fiera Milano. The development has a strong focus on sustainability: ‘smart’ buildings with high energy performance, a car-free zone and a diversity of developed public and green spaces. It would also become the second largest green park in Milan.
The brief for the CityLife International Design Competition was to complete the development by designing the last two remaining plots, with the urban area in between. To add this last chapter to CityLife, it was essential to understand the importance of the project as an urban and real estate development. After thorough analysis, UNStudio, as a lead architect, together with our Studio proposed to aim for a finely crafted, high performance urban campus and create diversity in both function and architecture, as well as form a stronger transition between the existing urban fabric and the connecting neighborhoods. UNStudio was the lead architect, and SBGA I Blengini Ghirardelli worked as Partner of the project.
