In Alba, in the heart of the Langhe Hills, SBGA transformed a large 1960s holiday villa into a new live/work space for artist Valerio Berruti. The project reinterprets the existing building through internal remodeling and a series of new extensions, establishing a stronger relationship with the surrounding vineyards and the distinctive topography of the site.
The design follows the natural geometry of the hill, with spatial lines generated by key points in the landscape and translated into an architecture deliberately free from conventional orthogonal layouts. The result is a sequence of interconnected spaces shaped by changing perspectives, light and views towards the countryside.
Materials also play a central role in defining the different functions of the house: exposed concrete characterizes the working areas, oak brings warmth and intimacy to the private spaces, while stone creates continuity between indoor and outdoor environments. Home and studio coexist as part of a single architectural system, creating a highly personal setting where everyday life, landscape and artistic production continuously overlap.
