Cascina Merlata Residential Complex was conceived to preserve an intimate and domestic dimension within a large-scale urban intervention. The design seeks to balance urban density with landscape permeability, featuring more compact and “urban” façades along the boulevard and more open, permeable fronts facing the park and the inner courtyard.
The building volumes are articulated through setbacks and terraced upper levels, while softened corners reduce visual impact and promote integration with the surrounding landscape.
The project enhances the relationship between the system of public squares and the park, organizing pedestrian routes and green areas over a raised podium that mediates between the urban and residential scales. Flexible apartment layouts allow for diverse configurations, while the architectural language — sober yet contemporary — reinterprets Milan’s tradition through innovation, sustainability, and a strong sense of urban quality.
